38. Portuguese Verb To Drink - Beber or Tomar
Beber and tomar are regular verbs, so they should be easy to learn.
beber - to drink | tomar - to drink / take | ||
eu bebo | nós bebemos | eu tomo | nós tomamos |
tu bebes | vós bebeis | tu tomas | vós tomais |
ele/ela/você bebe | eles/elas/vocês bebem | ele/ela/você toma | eles/elas/vocês tomam |
When you use beber, it usually refers to alcohol, but there's no problem
if you specify the drink after the verb.
Notice that tomar also means to take. You can also say tomar
o desjejum - to have breakfast, but never say tomar
o almoço or tomar o jantar. For this purpose
we have the verbs almoçar - to have lunch and jantar -
to have dinner.
