Icelandic has many words for weather and its various extremes. Listing them all could take many months, even years. This is a list of the most common weather terms you are most likely to hear.

Wind – vindur

Breeze – gola

Windy – hvass

Storm – stormur

Gale – rok

Sunshine – sólskin

Bright – heiðskír

It’s cloudy – það er skýjað

Shower – skúr

Sleet – slydda

It’s snowing – það snjóar

Mist – þoka

Warm – hlýtt, hlýr

Hot – heitt

Frost – frost
