Quick Update.

ANPE is still harassing me about finding a job. Just one day after sending me a letter saying it was ok that I didn’t go to the mandatory meeting because I had found a job, they send me an offre d’emploi and apparently want me to tell them for a THIRD time that I have indeed found a job. I’m starting to think that place is run by monkeys. No, that’s a bit too degrading to monkeys. I hope I will never be unemployed ever again…

I’ve also been waiting about two months to get one last document from the rectorat so I can complete my lectrice contract paperwork. So far they have ignored every single one of my e-mails (all five of them) and constantly told me to call back “next week” when a different person will be there. Their excuses range from it’s summer so everyone is on vacation to it’s September so everyone is busy with la rentrée. I’m sorry, should I have called before I knew I was hired and needed this document?? ::sigh::

I went to a training session at the university yesterday morning for the new computer labs and I feel like the biggest nerd ever because I loved every minute of it. I hope the students realize how lucky they are to have this technology to help with comprehension and pronunciation. Even just a few years ago when I was an undergrad, we had nothing but cassettes. Either I’m older than I want to admit or technology improves really, really fast.

Fall is already here – I have to turn on my little heater in the mornings – and I go back to work next week. Not so excited about the first, but have been waiting 5 months for the latter!

Not even an hour after I posted this, I received yet another letter from the ANPE. They scheduled me for another mandatory meeting and asked once again to tell them if I have found a job!!!!

How did it get so cold all of a sudden? It’s like 15 degrees, that can’t be normal for September. I shudder to think of how it will be in February!

I love the language lab at my university, and the fact that personnel can go for free too! I am all about the pronunciation software, it’s seriously cool. Though I do kinda miss those cassettes . . .

hey! I’m so impressed you had a training morning on the labs! We had 10 minutes and yes, we still have the cassette labs. I am wondering how I’m going to put audio text on them as I don’t even own a tape player these days!!

How funny that they keep sending you letter! Well…it is not really funny for you I am sure. I am sure in the long run they will get the point that you now have a job, but not before sending you a few more letters!

Sounds new and exciting. I’m not thrilled with the change in weather. I don’t like the lack of sunlight. The rest I can manage. I feel more like I’m on vacation in the summer time too..

    Oh excuses.. fun stuff.. not!

Try going onto the Assedic website. I think you need your ID number and a code that’s on your paperwork from Assedic, and you can “mettre à jour votre situation”. You can say there that you’re no longer looking for a job and that you found a new one. Your conseillier at ANPE will need a copy of your contract as well. Maybe that’s why they don’t get it? “No photocopied contract, no job! Dub dub dub, don’t tell me about no letters!”

The way the stupid ASSEDIC site is set up is that you have to wait until you start working before you can input the information. So I have to wait until October 1st to do it. It won’t take a future date because it wants the date you “repris” an activity – so you have to do it during the month you went back to work. It’s kinda lame actually. You’d think they’d want to know asap if you’ve found a job.

Why is Jennie no longer in France?

I created this blog in September 2006 when I moved to France from Michigan to teach English. Many of the earlier posts are about my personal life in France, dealing with culture shock, traveling in Europe and becoming fluent in French. In January 2010, I started focusing more on teaching and learning languages in general. In July 2011, I relocated to Australia to start my PhD in Applied Linguistics. Although I am no longer living in France, my research is on foreign language pedagogy and I teach French at the university so these themes appear most often on the blog. I also continue to post about traveling (though now my trips are usually in Australia) and being an American abroad.
