David has been watching the France vs. New Zealand (which I’m told is the best team, or is it South Africa?) rugby game for the past two hours. Apparently they just won. I have no idea what this means. But David says they are now in the semi-finals. I tried watching the last few minutes, and rugby games are 80 minutes long (hey, I do know something about rugby!), but the clock didn’t stop at 80 minutes, so I was extra confused. I understand this game as much as I understand football. ::sigh:: Though I think I’d prefer to watch rugby in France than football in the US. No annoying commercial breaks every 2 minutes! At least I understand soccer since I used to play it. But this country’s obsession with soccer and rugby is just as bad as the US’s obsession with football and basketball. Aren’t there more important things in the world besides sports?

Not for australians or the french either it seems! I nomrally couldn’t give two hoots about rugby but now I am a little bit excited about the next game. And at least I’ll know that our normally quiet end of town is likely to be full of tooting car horns again if France wins this weekend.

Oh, I hear you on this! I just can’t get into the whole rugby vibe thing, no matter how hard I try… I’ve never been into sports in general, and although I’ll occasionally watch PART of a soccer game, and I’ve joined my boyfriend in watching some tennis recently because I adore Federer, I just can’t do the whole rugby thing…
So when I was out on Saturday night with some friends, I found out from my boyfriend on the phone that France had won, and then heard all the craziness in the streets because I had to pass by Bastille on foot… I’m happy for France, bien sûr, but I think I’ll be a bit relieved when it’s all over!

Looks like I’ll stand out from the pack because I’ve been loving the Rugby World Cup and was devastated when Australia lost to England!

I’m with backinthegroove on this one. I only watch two sports on the telly – Tennis and the Rugby, both being quintessentially ‘British’ sports.
Go France!
