The good and the bad.

I received my French driver’s license! David is going to start teaching me how to drive a manual car this weekend. I still need to learn French road signs and all that too. What is up with the weird priorité à droite with little side streets? Why don’t cars on the main road have the priorité?

My website crashed last night because the bandwidth was exceeded. I thought I had unlimited bandwidth, but apparently that means 50 GB a month. I bought more bandwidth, but I don’t know when the site will be back up. I’m losing money because of this (Google Ads…) and I’m not happy!

Plus I have a stuffy nose and my head feels all congested. I do believe I’m getting sick. Blah.

I arrived in France one year ago today. This was the very first picture I took, on the drive between Lyon and Grenoble:


EDIT: Site’s back up and I now have 100 GB of bandwidth each month!

    I don't have mine. I'm just too old to go through all of that and I don't want to spend the money. I think I will try living in Kentucky for a while and get a driver's license there. I think it will be easier and cheaper.

    Congratulations? Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you got to exchange? *S*

    Maybe you could buy one of those "permis de conduire" DVDs to learn la code de la route? They only cost 15-20€ - plus it could count as time when you're practicing your French! And be careful - it's not only the little side streets that can be priorités à droite - two of the biggest roads in my town have it (but of course it's not marked, so you really have to be careful at those spots because half the people stop and the other half don't).

    Thanks! I was so relieved when I saw the envelope this morning. La Poste doesn't lose everything!

    Joy, it was super easy. It took 6 weeks to receive my license, but it was free!

    Jennie, was the exchange for a French license difficult? I plan to do it this spring.

    Luckily I had manual transmission at home...

    Congrats and YAY on the driver's license! So La Poste finally came through -- for once! I had so many packages lost over the last two years, now I just tell my parents always to send me packages to my work address -- which they don't do that often anyway.

    If I'm ever able to drive here, I'm going to have to go through the whole code/permis process, because I was from a state that didn't have the "accord"!! I wish I had thought to do what some expats did, which was to establish an address in another state to get the driver's license before moving over here... Oh well, that was one thing I didn't do enough homework on ahead of time.

    Permis de conduire, code de la route -- one of these days! And boy, do I dread it...
