Burger TV? Seriously?

There’s going to be a new TV channel in France aimed at American expats. It’s called Burger TV. How unimaginative and stereotypical.

Here’s an actual quote from one of the directors of the channel: “When you are an American living outside your country you miss two things: your television shows and a good burger!”

Excuse me? I’m sorry, but this just makes me feel angry. And insulted.

On an interesting linguistic note, that second article (written by a Brit) mentions the Midwest as if it refers to the entire USA. And “homely” US dramas? LOL. I knew the meaning must have been different in British English.

Man, these homemade crepes and freshly made meals are good, but I want a cholesterol-laden, meat product with no actual positive nutritional value. I just CRAVE empty calories and juicy flavor. Forget cultural French films…give me Letterman’s Top Ten! I need my homely Desperate Housewives!Ugh. What a shame.

I just read one of the articles. I have yet to read the second. Dumb idea…offend our target demographic in the process of trying to sell them a service. Secondly, the logo is dumb as all get out. I have no words for this. I seriously want to write a letter to them and tell them how offensive that is. Also, why are they proposing what’s popular in the midwest?? I don’t stay up at night hoping for midwestern television. I don’t even understand that thought process. Whatever.

Have you heard of Croissant TV for French people living in the states? Yeah, me neither because it doesn’t exist! I just can’t imagine the reverse situation. That’s annoying.

Sort of strange. I save my cravings-such as mexican food and American sports-for when I go home. The point of living in another country is to have an totally different experience. I miss American TV some but, really, what’s to miss?

that is very interesting, and I guess I will have to see it to form a decent opinion on it… but I seriously think I miss Kraft Mac-n-cheese more than I miss a burger.

what channel will this be on? is it on satellite/cable only? I agree that the name and stuff is stereotypical, but I just want to watch american tv again!

I do miss my American TV but if they did their research they would realize that many American expats actually miss their vegetarian cuisine and not burgers.

Fair point. But I’m going to have to admit something: my family and I have been in France for just over 2 months and I really miss THREE things: TV, bugers, and Starbucks. How American of me.

Crystal, I think it will be a cable channel. But it’s still in the planning stages, so who knows when it will actually be on TV.And yes, vegetarian cuisine! I miss that!

I have to admit, I do miss some American T.V., American cultural references and American humour and I haven’t really read either of the articles but considering the American tv that does come over here, I can’t say I’d have too much confidence in what it would have to offer. Are actual Americans choosing the line-up? In addition most of the American T.V. I like is on cable or premium channels in the States for which I other ways to watch.
